Default Nasty looking growth on crappie's fin's?

Don't know what it is but this fall I have been catching multiple crappie with large white growths on their fins. Usually more prevalent on the tails. Nasty looking mostly on larger crappie. I've caught multiple crappie in brewer and Nimrod with it but this past week caught one at Conway with this growth. D10 and Idea what it is? Also is it harmful? I've been releasing them cause I wasn't sure if they were ok to eat.

We saw that on a crappie on Conway the other day. Fish are like humans, some get infections. This could be due to about anything, like humans getting sick. Personally I would filet it if the meat looked good and eat it. 375 degree peanut oil takes care of most things.
If you start seeing it on a large percentage of the fish you catch, that is a different story. Just a few is not a problem.

Thanks Matt, just a new one for me. I've caught many Halibutt and Lingcod with worms in the fillets and have ate them but this growth thing was new to me!

That fungus usually white appears mostly on fins or tails . We see it quite often on Nimrod Crappie but fillet them anyway .
