Default Toadsuck Report Last week of October

Not too many out fishing and those who are fishing aren't catching much. I've had a hard time finding crappie. I've seen a lot of little catfish caught (mostly on night crawlers) when there is a bit of water running but haven't seen much of any size. I had one day that I caught 1/2 dozen keeper crappie so then the water changed (of course).

What seems to be hot over the last couple of weeks has been the bream bite. I have cleaned more bream in the last few days than I have in the past 10+ years. I have never caught this many large bream on crappie jigs at Toadsuck. They seem to be all along the rock wing dike below the dam. I am catching them on just about any jig I throw that has red in the body or a chartreuse tail, mostly 1/16's but 1/32's and even 1/8's are working for me.

Here is a typical recent catch; the black lines on the lid are 10 inches apart. I don't like to clean too many at once but I've filleted 15-20 two or three times now, all caught on jigs.

I should add that I have also NEVER had so many tails pulled off my jigs, either! Tipping them with a nibble or wax worm seems to help with that problem.
