    Default Lake Wapanocca (wildlife area)

Near Turrell. I have not visited this area since the 70's. At that time there was talk of the lake being drained and cleaned to improve fishing. Does anyone know if this was ever done. Thanx

Hehehe...I guess that it took them awhile then! They just drained it and did some renovation work a couple of years ago. I heard that they took all the fish out and placed them in a stocking pond to put back in once filled back up. I do know that they are still having problems keeping water in it. Something about the multi-million dollar pumps quit working and they're gonna have to pay another buttload to fix them?? I am unsure of the current state of the lake, but I'm sure that the fishing isn't fantastic.

On the flip side, I have heard some of the most awesome stories from my dad and grandfather about Wapanocca. They would absolutely slay the crappie, bass, and bream out there. I don't think the lake will ever get back to those days again...

actually its been drained and restocked twice since the 70's

fished there as a child in the 60's if it wasnt for that lake and my grandfather who farmed a few miles away i would probably not be fishing today
