have been hooked in the back and once in the chest both were treble hooks, had a friend push them out and cut them off. Have never tried the string trick, though about it but the hooks were thru my shirt and the friend was already freaked out. Hope I don't have the need again to remove one!
Had to remove one from my dad's arm. His was a self inflicted wound while showing off a little! I had to push the hook through, cut the point and barb off and then back it out. His was on the backside of his forearm near the elbow. He could barely see it.
Hooks in my hands, I just use a set of needle nose and a quick yank.
My wife got a hook buried up in her finger once and I used the string method. She wouldnt watch while I did it and she didnt even know when the hook came out.
I've pulled one out of Lori's finger and had two pulled from mine, all with the string method. Its virtually painless. Kept on fishing all three times.Attachment 204999
You would have had less pain with the string method than pushing it through.
A couple of years ago, I had a white bass on one hook and my left pointing finger on the other hook of a Bandit. It was a terrifying ordeal. I was also alone. I had to put my foot on the fish to unhook him first. The hook in my finger was buried all the way to the bend. I backed it out with needlenose while pushing away from the barb. All was well until it was over. Then, I wanted to puke and regretted my decision to quit smoking about 20 years ago. DP
When people come to the ER with hooks in them. I use the string method. I showed it to the docs and now im the official foreign body removal guy. A "local block" (numbing agent) is much more painful and takes longer than just jerking it out with a string. Most people I have done it to end up laughing about how it didnt hurt as much as they thought it would. Its just scary thinking about it, but not so bad. Most have said they wouldnt leave their fishing hole just do it right there from now on. I would do the same! This method is for hooks with smaller barbs and too short to push all the way thru and removing the barbs. I would NOT do this with a big circle hook or any other big hook with big barbs. U will hate ur life if ya do!
Hooks with big gaps and big barbs its best to push them on through, cut em off and then pull em out. I would do this in the "field" as well. Tetanus needs to be up to date. So if it is then ur home free. If its not see primary care doc as soon as possible. Im not leaving a fishing hole until im done fishing hahaha.

Yea and you definitely dont want to be one of the 15-20 people per year that die from tetanus in arkansas
