    Default Question about braided line

I use braid on my smallmouth and finesse bass setups, but I'll connect a florcarbon leader to the braid mainline (I really like nanofil) with a double-uni knot. I see a lot of posts about folks using high visibility 15/4. Are you using a leader or are you tying braid directly to your jig when single pole fishing? Do you think the visibility of the braid costs you bites? With clear water I would almost always use a leader. But I'm not sure about the dingier stuff like the Arkansas River where I plan to fish this weekend.

    Any thoughts are appreciated.

Lots of people will say that it makes no difference, but I have seen days on Conway, which is pretty stained, where they wouldnt touch a jig tied on hi-vis line. May be different when casting or pulling jigs/cranks for a reaction bite, but I wont use it for vertical jigging.

We use the Berkley 10(4 lb dia) & 12 (6 lb dia)lb Nano-fill (clear mist) A crappie legend on our home lake showed us this line. We fish a clear deep lake.(costly $19.00 a spool)(150 yd) Have been using the same line on the same rod/reel for 3 years now.(do that with mono, fluoro)Yes a clear line fluorocarbon would be better. The trade off is you can see the line jump when a fish hits. Also can feel the bait through a brush top (less hangups(spooking) fish. We have caught over a 100 fish this week(spring break) where other boats fishing around us caught nothing. Am sure the line helped us see the lite bite.Do not like leaders (hangup) in thick brush.(where crappie live) Why use a leader?(cost)? fill the whole spool with the line to be used.

I tie straight to jig. Have used black, green yellow, orange and red. Never seen a difference. As a kid caught lots of crappie fishing 20-25 lb black Dacron line line. I do not think line visibility affects crappie like it does trout or small mouths. Some folks will disagree but that's my opinion for what it's worth. Like Jackie I would rather feel or see the light bite.
