We usually go to the little red a few times a year when it gets real hot and trout magnets work great. But our go-to, and I dont know if its a "faux pas" of trout fishing but we have always used crickets. If they will eat a fly on top of the water, why wouldn't they eat a live creature that looks similar to a fly/nymph/etc? We usually get funny looks from folks, and the fly fisherman really get to staring us down, but we rig them up with a modified C&C rig with a fixed weight to cast and catch on the rocks. Good luck!

Seems like they're voracious eaters of anything floating on the water, minus the bait I've picked that day of course.
