    Default Cutting the Cord

I let my 16 year old and his best friend spend a few days at the White River Refuge in Ethel. This is the first time they have gone by themselves. They caught about 20 fish of all different species. They had about a 20+ pound carp join them in the boat. The fish made a 250 man/boy squeal like a pig. They decided to hook the carp, throw it out, and reel it back in.

They came home safe, hungry, and tired. Can't say the same for the boat trailer...missing taillight, fender gone, one of the trailer guides, and a $200 Abu Garcia pole (a birthday gift) broken. All in all they could be out doing a lot worse things than camping and fishing.

Time to put the poles up, fall football camp fires up on Monday. Go Hornets!

It's all good and just a part of growing up. Glad they had some fun. Now, tell that young man to go play some football and win won for dad and the trailer and pole will all be forgiven

Bet you remember a few trips. At least thats a lot cheeper than getting him out of trouble.

You need to pinch his head off NOW. Trust me.

Just kidding.........BE GLAD HE AND HIS BUDDY WENT FISHING! At 16, if that's how he chooses to spend a few days in the summer, it will pay off before long. Trust me again!

Glad your son & friend had a good time and came home safe. My friends and I used to take my dad's boat out when we were that age. They gotta learn sometime, AND earn your trust by doing things right and not bringing it in all messed up. I'd say they did OK, but they might have been a little more careful with your rig.

By the way, I've got a Hornet too, a Harmony Grove Hornet! My son has been a starter since 3rd grade peewee league. He didn't get his athleticism from me, that's for sure. I can't wait for our first game versus Bearden. That'll be a BIG test.

Good story and hopefully will pay off in the long term. Lots of boys into no good these days instead of enjoying the outdoors.
