    Default Rainy day Nimrod

Trip did not start out great. My cousins boat quit on the middle of the lake, had to fix it sitting in my boat in the pouring rain. My GPS with waypoints quit 3 minutes after I turned it on so that was out. We did end up catching a few small crappie and a bunch of small cats on crappie jigs Saturday morning. Went back to camp for a while where I dropped my phone right in a puddle of water. Went back out that afternoon and went to the other end of the lake where it narrows up to the river. Fished the ledge from where it drops off from 5 feet to about 13 feet. Lined up with the red bouys and managed to catch 27 total decent crappie between my wife and I. No big slabs but all in the 13-14 inch range. Caught a few small bass and a 6 pound channel cat there also. My cousin went to the right of the channel and fished the 2 foot water in the brush. They caught 16 keepers. Not bad for my first time on the lake since I was a kid! Now to see if my cousin got any pics since my phone is still not working!

FYI: Meatgetters jigs work for anything. Caught multiple small 1/2 to 1 pound channel cats, all the crappie in my boat, and all the bass in my boat all on his jigs either bare or tipped with yellow/gold crappie nibbles.

Great Job! I was out there Sunday and couldn't get through the dinks to find many nice fish. Thanks for the post.

You mean you got wet? Glad you caught a mess. MEATGETTER jigs work but I never add nibbles.

We went through a lot of dinks! Had one spot that looked good, but couldnt catch a crappie for all the 8 inch long channel cats!

The better question would be when were we dry! Had a good time though and nice to be back on Nimrod. I was probably somewhere around 10-12 years old the last time I fished there with my Dad. 33 now so it's been a long time.

We went through a lot in order to keep the ones we did. There are a bunch of small ones there. My "home" lake is Clear Lake though, about the same there the last 5 years or so. 15 dinks for every one keeper.

Brewer has been the same way for me 20 dinks to a keeper. Sure hope the trend doesn't spread to more lakes, not sure why this is becoming more and more common.
