    Broken back I would guess. also makes them hard to fillet.

    I have caught fish of several species with broken or deformed backs. That looks like a deformity with the short tail.

    Wasn't broke or anything, just short. Looked like it was about an inch short.

    that's a new hybrid they are trying in Mississippi so that those measuring devices you drop the crappie in and read the length will work correctly. Sardis crappie are so thick they won't drop all the way in so they shortened the tail by 1.5 inches to correct it.
    Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.

    A crappie gene went astray somewhere, most likely inbreeding I recon.
