    Default A Learning Experience

Anytime I go on a fishing trip and the fish ain't biting, I try to use it as a chance to learn different things about the lake. I made my first trip to Reelfoot today, and I learned plenty. I thought I'd share the top 10.

10.The crappie statue at the boat ramp is in no way relative to the fish you're gonna catch.
9.Its a good idea to mark the boat shed with your GPS. (in case the rain is coming down so hard you can't see the actual dock)
8.The crappie in Reelfoot are just as hard to catch as anywhere else. (so much for a 2lber by every tree)
7.The duck blinds have more red wasps than crappy. (Wasp spray recommended, or at least an Epi-pen)
6.When they tell you at the baitshop they're bitiing in 4 fow, ask for more details. (Most everything is 4 fow)
5.The actual breaking strength of 6 lb line is 12.8 lbs of force when tangled up 6' out of the water. (Its .75 lbs in a fishes mouth)
4.All the folks you see fishing in the lily pads are "bluegill" fishing. (So don't get too excited when they say they've got 25 or 30)
3.Drum are lots of fun to catch when the crappie ain't biting. (Kinda like riding a moped, huh RCC?)
2.If you fish the ditches that connect the basins, don't fish either side of a corner.(Unless your serious about wanting a new boat)
    1.Its alot easier to find a parking spot at 6 p.m. than 6 a.m.

But it wasn't all bad. I was fishing in one of said ditches, and this boat/F16 Falcon comes screaming across the lake and comes roaring up behind me, and I'm crawling up on the bank to get out of the way, and lo and behold, Ronnie Capps and Steve Coleman come cruising by. I tried to get a pic, but apparently their boat is alot faster than my iphone 2.
