    Default Good bad afternoon!

Went out yesterday to the scott lock and dam. launched in the oxbow on the right and fished there for a bit, hit the main channel and went down to willow beach channel and fished a while. Water temps were around 66-68 degrees. Ended up catching 14 keepers. That was the good part. 1st I got the boat stuck on a sand hill under the water, finally did enough circles to get it off, left willow beach and hit a submerged log at full speed, no damage, but scared the crap out of me. Got back to the launch and went to load the boat, water level had dropped. I could not get the trailer all the way in without dropping it off the ramp. Got the boat about 3/4's of the way on the trailer. Ran the winch strap out and started winching it on. The hook itself snapped right above the eye where the strap connects to it, came flying back, missed me but hit the back of my Jeep.

That sucks, 1995 model grand cherokee that has spent the last 5 years offroad and still did not have one dent and only two or three rock chips in the paint. The groove in the middle of the dent is from the spring clip that is "supposed" to keep it from popping off. Ended up running my real front winch under the jeep up the back to the roof rack with a snatch block and back to the boat to get it on the trailer right.

It happens I guess. I'll fix the Jeep this summer. Boat now has a 10k hook on it with a synthetic strap. Overkill, but.... Going out this weekend to hensley again. May try the bayou also.
By the way, fish yesterday were caught about 8 foot off the bank, 6-7 foot of water, pulled from off the bottom. River temp is still cold.

Could have been a lot worse if that hook had hit you. Good story. Glad your ok. Got one I'm gonna replace- today!.
