I have tried them and can't tell much difference. Wal Mart has lots of them but the hooks are a little small. IMO

Red hook is the least of your problems! When they bite it don't matter what color hook. Jig color and/or minnow option yes!

I bought a few hundred while back. I have confirmed they work just as well for me at catching brush/stumps/rocks or anything else I usually lose a jig to. I haven't noticed that it improved my catch, but I am just learning still so mileage may vary.

I found some on ebay that I got pretty cheap. A Lot cheaper than Walmart ect, guy making/selling 50 or so. Just have to look at shipping cost to make sure its a "deal".

I like red hooks. Seems like the hook is a little lighter. Wallyfriedaburns on ebay pours them how you want them for a reasonable price.

I think the red hooks are a gimmick. They say red is first color to fade out when lowered in the water . Whatever you believe in but I'll stay with plain old bronze. The red hooks I've seen are cheap gold hooks colored red.

I have found them to be brittle.

I think it's a matter of what you have confidence in...I use them but it's because the heads I buy off eBay have Matsuo sickle hooks on them colored that way...I'm buying for the type and brand...lighter super sharp hook
