    Default AGFC Crappie Sampling Video

Talkin Outdoors did a show on crappie sampling on Lake Conway (Gold Creek) this past winter. This aired this past Sunday. In case you missed it and wanted to see it, here it is.

Question for D-10? How is the best way to tell a Black Crappie from a White Crappie other than color? Noticed a lot of different colors in the crappie you were sampling!!Thanks again!!

The shape and color pattern looks somewhat different to me. The number of doral spines is different and most reliable way to tell. White crappie have five or six spines and black crappie have seven or eight spines. D10 might have more details.

White crappie have 6 dorsal spines and black crappie have 7 or 8 dorsal spines. The dorsal spines are the hard spines on top of the fish. There are different colors in the nets because there are also redear, bluegill, and yellow bass in the nets with the crappie.
