Took the eight-year old (Atticus) on one of the Ark river oxbows this morning and managed a few decent ones. The wind was pretty bothersome at times but we still had a great time. Atticus watched his four rods and I watched mine and he landed a couple by himself with very little help. He is beginning to know what a light bite looks like and is paying more attention. He grabbed one of his rods once that had gone under the water and I knew immediately he was going to have a battle. He played that fish like a pro and after ten minutes he got it close enough for me to get the Ego net under it. As soon as I got it into the net the hook came out of it's mouth and about that time I am wondering if it was going to break this Ego net like that 23# buffalo broke my first one. I lowered it a little bit back into the water to take some pressure off and was going to lip it when it gave a big flop and went out of the net and into the lake. It was a flathead catfish that I estimated would go 8-10 lbs. Atticus talked about it all the way home, LOL!! Oh yea, the Meatgetter Blue and White MinnerCritters were the weapon of choice today in a double rig hanging off Ozark ProTroller 16 footers. And here is the tip I promised you guys.......If the water is muddy from heavy rains put a Bobby Garland MoGlo on that MinnerCritter and then tip it with a minnow. That "glow in the dark" BG gives an extra measure of attraction and helps a bit to offset those low visibility conditions. Just because it is called a MinnerCritter doesn't mean a minner is all that can be tagged on it! We caught them from .7 mph all the way up to power trolling at 1.3 mph in 8-10 FOW fishing 1-3 ft deep. Water temp was 59.5 and the big mommas were still in the deeper water.
