    Default Crappie Weekend (pics)

Went to visit the in-laws this weekend in Star City. I went ahead and took my boat so that I could get out on Cane Creek. LA Stumpjumer (Jerry) had been making some posts about the crappie out of that lake, so I had to go try it. Jerry had been casting roadrunners at them, so Saturday I casted for the majority of the day at them. Caught 4 keepers and a bunch of stumps.:D At about 3:30, I decided that I'd had enough of the casting, so I threw out two long poles and spider-rigged through the maze. That was the ticket for me, I ended up catching 7 more between 3:30 and 5:00. After that, I figured that I might stay another night. Went back out there this morning and spider-rigged with 3 poles. Had a limit of 15 by 11:00 this morning. Those are some beautiful crappie out of there, and probably the healthiest black crappie I've ever seen. The pics really don't do them justice. All were 11-13".

    A couple from yesterday.

There were about 10 boats fishing this little 1 acre section of the lake. That's Jerry in the foreground, casting that dang roadrunner.

Jerry with a nice one this morning. That was without a doubt, a "football" crappie. He had some shoulders on him.

    15 fish limit from today.

Total haul for Sat. and Sun.

    Hey Chris:

Looking GOOD! They were a little slow over here this weekend but the ones we caught today were all good size.

    Chris,

That's a great mess of crappies! Way to go. So you had to show them how to do it.

Boy that looks like a great weekend. I spent the weekend in the deer woods with my kids. No kill. But saw a lot of deer.

I'm beginning to think it's the combination of the two of us. Probably too much running of the mouth, and not watching poles. They do call you chaty kathy for a reason.:D

Well you tell they (Casey) that mouth talkin does not effect pole bendin. Now it could be cause I am watching what I am cooking thats causing me to miss those bites . Perhaps I will just cut out the burgers, chili, fish, ect on the next trip so I can catch me a big ole mess.

They were bunched up in little 5 or 6 fish schools. You'd pull that many out of a spot, and then go looking for another spot. I think they were coming up out of the hydrilla and hitting it. Those big black crappie sure do put up a good fight.
