I certainly appreciate all the feedback. I want to spend conservatively yet not waste my money either. I saw these reels for $17, they weigh 6 oz., and only want them to replace the $15 crappie reels I have now. What I have look like tiny casting reels yet you cannot cast them and the line continually gets behind the spool on the end.

I'll keep using my piece of junks synergy's since they have never failed me. I fish oxbows the majority of the time and fish less than 8 ft deep and really what more do you need other than something that lets out a few feet of line and then reels it up when you're done? Drag isn't a factor for me when 99% of your fish weigh less than 3lb? If I'm casting its a different ball game. Spend what you can and share your experienced, good or bad.

Take a look at the SHIMANO IX 1000R or 2000R reels. They are low cost and would make a good replacement for those little "baitcasters" you're talking about.
For as cheap as they are they last a long time and for trolling the rear drag is very handy. Monk(monkscrappie.com) gives a good price break if you buy 4 or more($11 each).

Didn't mean to offend you. It's just the three synergys I had didn't last a full year & weren't used that much. Vertical fishing 10-25' deep, just letting line out & not used for casting.

Hey Iron Man, I was in your neck of the woods this weekend with my daughter, grandson, and SIL. My daughter used to work at the nursing home in Judsonia. They are from Augusta, and we went through to Searcy several times. We had to go the old highway cuz my daughter said the interstate is a mess.
