Lake Greeson
For anyone who hasnt been to Lake Greeson much, here is my two $ worth (adjusted for inflation)
To all of you heading to Crappie Camp this week who are not familiar with the lake, I am sure you know to hang with, and listen to what Jerry, Darrell and the locals have to say. This is an awesome crappie lake!
I and some others have been making yearly April trips for the last 15 years.......You know how it goes, some years you hit it right and some years you miss it. We have an average of hitting it right about a third of the time. You plan a vacation and take what what you get. The group I meet with come from over 600 miles away each spring and everyone has to have things set, and take what we get.............
Anyway, I havent fished Greeson in the fall except last year in October so I cant really say I can give any pointers for this time of year.
The lake was real low and the brushpiles that I am familiar with were pretty visable and I picked up a half dozen on each pile I fished. They ran small, but myself and the group I was with traveled from DeGray to Greeson cause we were not having any luck on DeGray.......We learned our lesson: Go to Greeson in the first place!
By all means, listen to Jerry and Darrel, they will put you on some fish. I dont know how close the fall pattern resembles the spring pattern and I havent fished the areas that Jerry concentrates on, but If you get bored catching crappie in and around Darrel's honey holes, try going under the I-70bridge to West Fork and fish the left bank..It is a creek channel with cedar tops dropped every now and then....Also some other creek channels with brushpiles......Or go right after passing under the bridge, and go to the main channel....Find first big cove on the right...There is a big brushpile in the middle and a small cove on the left further in....Productivity depends on lake level........ Go past that cove and go left after the point on what may or may not be an island depending on lake level...(Branch Creek I think)...A prime place to troll if that is your style...Did good there many times!
Sorry this is lengthy...I just want to stress what a good lake this is....On one hand this lake is, and should be kept a secret, and on the other hand, I would like it to be known enough to maybe get some more affordable lodging around it for those that cant handle camping anymore yet cant afford a cozy camper...............................
