The Crappie are 10 to 13' right in the bottom of some of the new piles. I put out a couple today . I caught 5 nice fish and some dinks in one deep pile on the river. Did'nt catch anything but dinks in the lake.:DQuote:

The lake level is different in spring verses winter pool (345 msl spring 342 msl winter ) We have shallow water over most of the lake under 8' at 342 msl.The creeks and river is deeper to as much as 30 ' deep. I place some in shallow water at low pool 3' or 4 '. The deepest brushpiles now along river is 8' to 15' at low pool. I've had some slide off into 20' water. I find a bend and drop brush on the old river banks 8' to 13' deep. Don't like fishing over 12' unless I have to. The crappie at times will be buried up in my brushpiles right off the bottom. Since I fish all year I place them at all sorts of depths along channel drops. But for winter fishing I perfer 10' min. depth water. I know some fish 25' deep at times here in late winter. Our lake is mostly off color most of the time, but the main river gets real clear at times. We have even had to cast for crappie in March a couple of times .When spring gets close the fish will suspened over a brushpile in 10' of water. When they suspend over brush at 3' or less they are spooky when it's clear. I know I have'nt cleared up much on the subject. But you have to put out several different ways to stay on fish all year.
