I use 6# Trilene XL smooth casting line for pretty much everything and just adjust the drag as needed for the type of fish. Love casting a weighted cigar cork with a jig, it casts a mile. I am a true believer in the "no tangle" design. Maintenance is a breeze with the oil ports. I use 1/32-1/8 oz. jigs depending on what I'm doing. I originally started with 4# line, but do some bass fishing from time to time and wanted a little more backbone. I have two of the DH 3000's.

Thanks for the great detail. I just switched to the same line in 4#. Give me a shout if you are ever up in the Land Between the Lakes area of KY & Barkley Dams.

I don't fish everyday. But, I veiw reels like I do gas weed eaters. I buy the cheapest I can find and throw them away when I can't tolerate them any more. I have been using $12 reels I find at Academy for a few years now. I have them on my trolling/spider rods and my thump rod. No complaints and I get lots of use out of them.

Wayne (creek)had got me started long lining a little bit on Greers, when I first started gearing up my own boat, I didn't / couldn't buy 10 phluger reels so I bought an assortment of cheap reels. that way when the sorryest of them fell apart I'd know which ones were better and replace with them. after a couple years, hands down the best cheap reels I own are wally world avocet silvers.smoothest casting, the string doesn't get hung on the bail like the others do, and those are the only reels I have that cranking the handle closes the bail.

It is a whole lot less expensive to hang around Nimrod than it is Creek.

I bought 4 shimano sonomas a few years ago and they have been a great reel for my spinning rods. Even used them doing some "bank" fishing on the gulf. They were just groovy man.
