I saw this on Lake Hamilton when I was kid. Me and a buddy were walking the sea wall at my grandmothers fishing docks when a hen mallard came swimming by with her babies and the back one got hammered by a big ole bass. I also had a cottonmouth try getting in the boat with me on a reservoir in Stuttgart but after I hit him with my rod he backed off to a top I had been fishing when a monster bass hit him and knocked him out about a foot out of the water.Quote:

Those big old cypress tree red wasp are lethal.
Had a snake get in my seat while running lines at night. I could hear rods and reels crunching as I made my way to the back of the boat. When my shoes hit the transom, I put the light back on the front and the snake was trying to get away as much as I was. The wasp stories bring back some memories. When I was young, we had a couple of locals to drown after getting in one of those big river wasp nest. I think their name was Alread. I've seen a few of those nests as big around as a gallon bucket...maybe bigger. Of course this makes me remember capturing a hornets nest with a buddy. Temps were low enough the hornets could crawl but not fly. I gotta dig out those pics. I told my buddy while he was taking the pic "if you look in the camera viewfinder and I ain't there, RUN".
All these extra little things that happen just make a better memory or story.
I've got one that will be hard to top! While on the way to go dove hunting one morning years ago , me and a friend drove up on a whitetail doe standing in a ditch along the highway , I stopped and backed up to take a look at her and she wouldn't run so I ask my buddy how close you think I can get to her, I got out and walked slowly up to the deer expecting her to take off and only when I ran my hand along her face did she take off, I got back in the truck ands said to my buddy do you believe that just happened! As we started to drive away here the deer came running back and stood in the ditch once again, so I told rob I was gonna see if I could get that close again, we both got out of the truck this time and keep in mind it was still dark out and the headlights were blinding, as I reached out to touch the deer she took off like her rear end was on fire, ran across the highway made a big circle and came running right straight back at my truck,the deer was at a full speed all out run and ran into the trailer hitch on the back of the truck and on the slick asphalt lost her footing a slid under the truck and was bellowing like you wouldn't believe so I garbed her by the back legs and pulled her from under the truck, keep in mind the truck doors were still standing wide open and when this deer got loose she took off along the side of the truck and the driver side door acted like a cattle gate , the deer hit that door and jumped right up in the front seat of the truck and was kicking and bellowing and I thought she was gonna shred the seat with those hooves so I garbed her by the tail with her kicking like crazy and pulled her from the truck, once I got her from the truck I looked at my buddy and said let's get the heck outta her this things gone crazy, we couldn't believe what had just happened, several hours later after the morning hunt we drove back through the same area and there the deer was walking in circles and we knew something had to be wrong with her so we called the game and fish and a warden came and to shoot the deer , they sent the deer off for testing and the best I can recall we found out later the deer had brain worms, now that's a story and one I'll never forget!!!!

In honor of Crappie Greg...I'm sure these were checking Carol and I out at Beaver lake last year to make sure we weren't Crappie Greg. I think they had revenge on their mind.
