First Post here, couple of days late, but wanted to thank everyone for the motivation and inspiration to try trolling crankbaits. Little fishing report from Greer's Ferry Lake over Labor Day Weekend.
Tried my hand at Greer's Ferry. Have small selection of Bandit 300's but giving it a go. Went out Monday and Tuesday to try couple different areas. Finally found some by mid morning, then the jetski's and ski boats arrived in force. But ended up keeping 7 Crappie and 3 White Bass Monday, Tuesday the lake was much nicer, but wife went with me so was a short day that ended up with zero Crappie, and 6 Bass: 1 Largemouth, 1 Smallmouth and 4 White's. Guess I was catching fish both days which was great but hoping maybe I can dial the crappie in little more before the pattern changes again. Mad Cow, Black Splatter, and Sparkle Ghost seemed to be the lure of choice on both days, although my selection of colors is limited right now. Maybe someone else can suggest colors that have worked on this lake for them. Ordered a few online, and picked up a few from Acadamy's picked over selection but I have a wish list of a few that I want to add to the list.
I have question though, I seemed to be getting a lot more bass than crappie, and second day no crappie. Was trolling in 15-45 foot of water, with some structure showing, and fish on depth finder, but considering it was usually white bass that I was catching, can anyone offer any suggestions on what/where to look for stucture/depth for the crappie. I was trolling ~2mph with main motor (60HP 4stoker). Is that too fast for the crappie? Maybe why I was catching more bass? Or do I just need to try different area of lake? Devils Fork area was general area when I caught crappie, and second day I tried Cove Creek area. I tried using trolling motor, but foot controlled combined with all the boat traffic, being by myself in boat just made it pure hell and wasn't enjoyable, so stayed with main motor at idle speed.
Trying to get boat setup with rod holders ect, so its been a fun, but getting to be expensive fishing method. Have a 4 Rod Cumberland 360 setup now on side of boat. Should have ordered a few more bases, but another item to add to wish list for boat. All I have is cheap depth finder now, depth finder upgrade is probably not in budget til next year maybe tax return time.
Also, are there any Fish Cleaning Stations at the COE launch sites? I must be missing them if there are some, or just looking in wrong spots. Only one I could find listed on web site says JFK, which is the Little Red side, so not wanting to drive there to clean fish especially.
Happy Fishing to all, let your lines always be wet!

Pretty fish and a great report for your first post. That is the way to do it.
Welcome to the board. We usually try to run a few tenths slower around 1.7, but I will vary run up and down from that speed if the fish aren't hitting fast enough to suit. Some days are more bassy than others. I don't know why.

Welcome from Cabot. I cant help you much with pulling cranks OR Greers for that matter. But there are plenty of guys on here that are very knowledgeable, lots of good threads on cranking too. Read the "Cranking 101" sticky on the Ms board. You may also think about hiring Creekslick to show you the ropes out there. He is the crank-pullin guru on Greers. Good luck and welcome aboard!

This post is not for those who flagrantly disregard crappie season. You know who you are![]()
