Default A Special Day on Reelfoot

Today I took a good friend of mine to Reelfoot for a day of fishing. What made this special was how our trip came to be.

I am entered into my 2nd St Jude Half Marathon this year. As a participant, I raise money through the year for St Jude prior to the Half Marathon. To help raise funds to help me reach my goal, I offered a full day of fishing on Reelfoot to the first person to donate $100 to St Jude on my Marathon page through my Facebook page. Rod wasted no time in making the donation!! Thanks again Rod!!

We started the day around 8 am spider rigging in 4 FOW in stump fields that laid just outside some spawning beds. We caught a few dinks. We moved out to some 6' water with no better results.

We picked up around 11 am and moved to some spawning areas in the trees and jigged the trees for around an hour and a half. While moving between trees, I stopped and dropped the Mid South tube in a patch of lily pads and quickly caught one as did Rod.

We moved out to the pads and jigged the pads until around 3 pm and managed to pick up 6 crappie and a bream.

We decided to go search out some more pads and ended up in a set of trees just to check them out. I dropped in and immediately caught a nice male with his full spring colors on. I positioned the boat and Rod and I picked up a dozen nice crappie from those trees and ended the day shortly after 6 pm with 18 crappie and a bream along with a great day and some great conversation as well as money raised for St Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

Nice bunch of fish Kent and great Job. I love to give to the Children's hospitals. They do such a great job for our children who are ill or in need of medical attention. They are my number one choice in charity. If we cant take care of our children in need...then what kind of country have we become.

Absolutely great story and you are a real sportsmen and a gentleman for what you have done. I have done a few charity trips over the past year and I get more out of them than I do winning a tournament. Great job!!!!!
