I've seen crappie like those and wondered if it was near misses from the over populated gar or what? I'd think a good load of bird shot would take care of those pesky gars?

The clear lakes aren't that bad once you figure them out... Ouachita is the only lake I fish, you just gotta find those sweet spots... Normally once you find em they'll bite. I throw out brush piles once a year or so, that helps quite a bit.
