Friend Sunday caught a few at Shirey. Decent but not slabs.

That says nothing about today though.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.

The bite has been good on Lake Hogue but big keepers are few and far between. Lots and lots of dink crappie.
    Is winter over yet?

Sounds a lot like Brewer, I caught a limit there last week. When I got to the ramp a guy asked to see my catch, so I opend my live well, and they were GONE!! Upon further inspection, I realized that I had forgotten to put the plug in and they all swam out the drain hole.

Not sure what happened to Hogue. Up until the last few years we caught more 10-14" crappie than we would catch the little ones. Wonder if it has anything to do with the saugeye. Seems like they had a good effect on Frierson. I haven't caught a saugeye out of Hogue in several years now. Never caught very many, but at least 2-3 a year. Maybe Mojorig has more insight to this. Could also be the fishing pressure. Seems like a lot more people are fishing there now.

That explains why I haven't caught ant in a while.

I've got a report from both spots this week. My grandpa fished Shirey Wed. said it is still pretty high but water looks good. They caught decent number but most were small. He kept a handful and gave them away; didn't sound too impressed with the ones he kept.

He fished Hogue this morning until wind got up too high and the lake got kind of rough. They caught lots of small ones. I think fishing pressure has definitely had an affect. My grandpa use to camp down there this time of year and there would only be a few boats most days. He states the number of boats on weekdays has more than doubled from when he use to stay down there in his RV.
no matter what I'm doing, I've got hunting or fishing on my mind...

I agree with him. I went down on a monday afew weeks ago, and the parking lot was full. Just as many as a weekend. I've seen several people keeping a bunch of small crappie.

Yeah, he says most guys down there are keeping just about every crappie they catch and almost all are pretty small. He feels that has hurt the large fish #s. Based off what Ive read on here from some of the biologists it is a good thing they are keeping lots of smaller fish.
