    Default Mallard Lake: Report anyone?!?!?!?!?

Has anyone been over there recently? Are they catching anything other than dinks?

I know that they had an issue last summer with low water, and I know that the early reports were not too good, but I've got a hankering to give it a shot. I need someone to talk me out of it...

We turned the pump off on May 9th for the season after running the pump off and on for almost 5 months (1,050 hrs. of pumping). The water should be clear by now. There has been several people over there fishing. The green carp have been biting really well. I haven’t heard much about crappie, lately. I heard there were a couple of gentlemen catching limited numbers of good size crappie (14 inch size fish) but that was several weeks ago.

That is all I have, sorry!!

Mojorig -- in your fish samples this year, how did crappie numbers in Mallard compare to Lake Hogue?

In the spring, we conduct electrofishing samples on our bass populations. Crappie catches are more accidental depending on water temperature. So the number of crappie seen in the spring doesn't reflect the population numbers in the lake. We saw no crappie at Mallard and approximately 20 at Hogue. We saw the most at Lake Poinsett. (50+)

We are disappointed in the amount of crappie being reported caught in Mallard. The ones in there should of had an excellent spawn and good growth, this year. Survival of the fry should be high with a potential for a formation of a strong year class. With that being said, we will likely be requesting crappie stocked in there next year, just in case.

Thanks, Mojorig. I would love to see the lake stocked with a fresh batch of crappie!
