I do the same thing. I just pretend I missed a monsterLOL.
Agree, big minnow, equal big fish. I had several smaller ones yesterday and I ended up with some smaller crappie too.
With the brooders (#24's) Todd brought to Butla last year, I thought he was nuts. Danged fish hit em, and those minners were 6-7 inches long, and 11/2" wide. He did admit that he didn't look in the bags (they had put the oxygen bags in brown paper bags at the Minner farm) to check the size of them minners. . Those minners would swim off with a crappie in their mouths. Glad I had some 8's with me that day. I literally could'nt tell if those 24's were swimming, or I had a fish hitting!!!! The #12's he usually brings do catch big fish!!!!!!!
I do think sometimes it's better to match the hatch with the size of your bait tho.
wow,,, I go to a ballgame for an hr. and all helz broke loose about a dadgum minner !! yall settle down now !! n who's this barpit feller anywho ??
Ok, guys been a few years ago but while unloading the boat at day break I saw those threadfins working the banks so I tried to catch a few. I managed to catch half a dozen or so that was prolly 4-5" long to which my dad said those are too big. Well we got out to the 1st spot and I hooked one on under a cork about 4-5' deep. It trolled around for a lil bit then made a small circle and slowly started under. I let it go for a lil bit longer than usual cause of the bait size but when I set the hook it was a Hugh crappie to my dads surprise. He said you caught that on that big minnow, to which I replied yep as I threaded another on! Our lakes don't have the numbers but they do offer some biggens and those bigger crappie like I bigger bait I think. The other day when I went out I had some lil bitty minners and that's no good. I'll have to request bigger bait next time.
Good catch.
