We did use a minner. The gold hook was the key for us tho. All I used to use was that 4/0 gold hook on my trolling rigs, so I tried em. We caught a few on this and that, but when we switched to the big gold hooks, we limited quick. I had thrown all but 6 of those hooks away a week before, but glad I left a few in the box. Just put another box of 100 I had left back in there. .

We tried every color critter we had, bronze hooks, red hooks, you name it, but the 4/0 gold caught fish. Just a fluke probably, but it was a good fluke on that trip!!!!!

I am glad you pointed this out because I have been using those for a while and was about to get rid of them. I inherited a bunch of small Mr. Crappie hooks. i guess I will hang on to them.

So what made you even try such a hook?? were the minners that big or what?? It's when I hear about off the wall type stuff I wonder what would make a guy do something off the wall like say going to a 4/0 hook. I mean I like the red hooks but I'd never go to a 4/0 size and most everyone else wouldn't either.
