The ones we have the sensor is under the top cover so rain should not trip them.
A word of causion about the type of auto inflateable lifejacket that has the disc that dissolves to trigger the inflation. This disk will go bad after some time. Some times it will auto inflate when you don't want it to and sometimes (even worse) it will not auto inflate when you do want it to. We used to use this style of life vest for many years at work, until we started having problems with the discs. We now use the traditional type of PFD or some folks have the hydrostatic type. I recommend if you do have an auto inflate that is triggered by a dissolving disk and you have had it for over 4 or 5 years, you should probably get a recharge kit that comes with a new dissolving disk and replace it. I dont think the recharge kits cost too much but it is DEFINITELY worth the money if it saves your life. It would be a bad deal for someone to get thrown from a boat unable to mannually inflate the vest and the auto inflate disc has gone bad. Just some thoughts.
I have two of them. They are great in terms of comfort. Especially during hot weather.
