I myself am trying to learn about crappie behavior so I can be able to catch them in most conditions. Of course many on this board have forgetten more than I will ever know.
I agree with you. Take Gold Creek for example. That has to be one of the most crowded places I have ever fished, mainly due to reports posted on this site. BUT, I would say that 75-80 percent of those people don't catch many fish, if any at all. Crappie fishing takes finesse, and that only comes with lots of practice, (and frustration!) This site is a great place to learn the knowledge, patterns, techniques, and even a few honey holes. But, it takes a lot of practice and time on the water to be able to make the right adjustments at the right time. That's the part I am still working on, sometimes I score big and sometimes I strike out, but that's what keeps me coming back!!

Yeah, I hooked something really big yesterday. It snapped my 8lb test line in about 3 seconds!!

Yes, you have to be where the crappie are to catch them but many times people, myself included at times, are where the fish are but are not really catching much if any but someone else in the same location is. I am thankful as well for those on this board who are willing to share their knowledge and techniques to help others. I think spring camp is a testimony to the fact that as those with the years of experience share that experience with others we build a bigger crappie community that all can benefit from.

Anyone here fish the river up around the Fort Smith/Van Buren area or know someone that does? Heck I'd pay a guide for it if I could find one. I never grew up on the river so I'm just too nervous to put my boat on it and learn from trial and error. I have nightmares of running down the river and bam, ripped the motor right off the back of my boat.

Good job CMJ, the river is can be a special place that intimidates a lot of people. I single poled the other day, and had a ball, love rigging also. Hell, I love to fish! Good job I'm going to teach my 12 year old to run the trolling motor so I can sit back and enjoy what y'all did yesterday, that there is more to life than computers and video games and if we don't show them, they will never know what all God has given us to enjoy

I guess we are going to have to lay down the bass rods and get back to crappie fishing. Those river crappie are some real fighters. The river can be really frustrating with all the changing conditions but that is part of it's charm.
