Default My buddy buys a used boat....

I gotta tell this story on my friend. He goes and buys a tracker, around mid to late 90's model in a 17' version with a 50 horse Merc on it then upgrades to a 70 horse Merc. about the same model.
Right off he carpets the old boat and does a pretty good job of that. He tells me we an take her out and she needs run but the seats are gone and it's just sitting on plywood right now. So I say that's fine we can do that. He tells me now the passenger seat has some screws sticking up so watch out.....I thought he meant bolt screws but about 2 hours into things I find out they are tipped and OH did the hurt!
He had started it up in the pond and said the old motor runs pretty good. Well we get to the ramp and as he goes to pumping up the bubble I notice he has a leak, small one that I say if we can get her started you can prolly keep it going til you can get a new fuel line. We go to trim the motor up to take off the motor toter and the trim won't work so off comes the cauling and we begin to cross fire the solenoids to raise her up. Once we got the motor raised it began working fine though, not sure what that was all about yet? Next I begin to back him down the ramp and say did we get all the straps off the back end and he said no there's only one back there but I didn't take it off. So I get out and go back to remove the strap.
We back it down in the lake and it won't come off the trailer and we can't figure out why. Finally it comes lose and I see a trailer board floatin and figure out the problem. He says we'll toss it up on the bank and deal with that later so I pull up and park. Once parked I notice/inspect the trailer and see the remaining board was broke into and barley on the trailer WITH DUCT TAPE!!! I ask him where he bought the boat and he says some old man in Dequeen. I then said well did you know your trailer boards were held on with duct tape?? He just shakes his head and says that figures.
We ended up wiring the boards back on with electrical wire just so we could trailer the boat and get back.
OH and as we was leaving the house we hadn't went 100yrd til we noticed a flat boat tire....gotta love a used boat! I've never heard of duct taping boards to the trailer though now that's some redneck stuff right there!
All in all its got an older model Merc that I think once he gets a new fuel line and maybe some plugs it'll do just fine. The old boat rides as smooth as any aluminum boat i've rode in too.

Yeah, guess so. They say duct tape will fix anything but I've never heard of it on boat trailers! Sounded like to me somebody didn't wanna fix em right and wanted to unload the boat cheaper by just duct taping em up. Gotta watch older boat deals. My dad bought an old boat just last Summer and then the motor locked up soon after. He got another boat but wish he'd gotten a lil bigger one. He got a 14' boat with a 25 horse when I told him he should look for a 17' boat with 50 or so on it, added storage space and more stable but he didn't wanna go that big. I will say this the boat my buddy got rides about as smooth as any aluminum boat I've rode in.

We rednecks had two sure fine fixes when a hammer won't do. Duct tape and bailing wire but now we added a third fix . Zip ties!
