Wow, now those are some SLABS!!
I got a question for the group. Are there rules to cleaning the fish on the boat while in the lake? I never thought about it. Used to bring everything home and then dealt with the pain of fish guts and body disposals but I went fishing with someone who cleaned our fish right there. Great idea. I can toss in all the crap and the catfish and turtles can eat it. Never dawned on my that OK Fish and Game might take issue. Anyone know?
I believe that you can only clean your fish on site at a lake if you are done fishing. In other words you can't clean some fish and continue to fish. The trip must be over. I will check with a wildlife officer tomorrow to make sure.
Last I heard if it has a length limit no cleaning fish on the water.
That is correct.
From the AGFC Website.
Fish Cleaning – While fishing in waters designated as having a length or slot limit on sport fish, you may not possess a fish that has been filleted or had its head or tail removed while fishing from shore, boat or while being transported by boat. Check your destination to see whether length or slot limits apply.
I am originally from Mississippi where the world record crappie comes from and I lived 45 minutes from the world famous Grenada lake. I've fished hard all my life at this lake and have seen several 4 lb. crappie come out of there. I've caught 3 crappie myself that reached that caliber of fish. One was 4 lb. 4 oz. the other was 4 lb. 1 oz. and the last was 4 lb. even. They were all over 19 inches. You want to see my you tube video of some real SLABS? I checked with Enforcement and you are allowed to clean your fish at the location in which you caught them, as long as you are done fishing. This applies to lakes with length limits as well. You are not allowed to posses filleted fish while you are in a boat, requardless if you are done fishing, if you are on a lake that has a length limit. So, if you want to clean your fish at the location in which you caught them, it would be in your best interest to have your fishing gear put up, so that it does not appear that you are still activley fishing.
