I'm very much a novice, so take it with a grain of salt. Found them in Illinois Bayou on the brush piles. Good Luck.

Heres the deal old sarge. For the last couple days Xring and I have found the fish holding tight in heavy cover. I dont think we caught a fish away from the brush. we verticle fished and lost several jigs and xring lost a couple good rods including his cherished crappie getter that is out of production. Fortunately, I still have mine. Most females still had eggs but not bulging like a week ago?? The males were still black. Water was 59 -- 60 degrees. Tomorrow could be totally different. Have fun.
    It ain't nuttin but luck.

I think they were every where last weekend. I did pretty good in Illinoise creek staying in the channel about 20' deep in 30' of water. Still had eggs and the males were still dressed for an orgie.

All men are created equal, some work harder in the preseason.

My last day there, they had moved off of the banks and were holding tight to brush in the 15'-18' range. I found some good brush that hadn't been beaten to death around the Mill Creek area on the edge of the channel and I caught some good females there.
