Tony,
I have not been there since the early 1990"s. Are there still cabins/rooms there for rent? I used to fish it every chance I could.

Has anybody been down to Mellwood Old River yet, this spring? We used to fish it a lot back before my FIL passed away. I haven't been down there since.

I fished near there last weekend and had no luck but the water temp at the surface was 58 so it should be very close. You might try Mr. Atkins--870-827-6477. They're good folks. They used to have cabins for rent. I would be curious to know if he still rents them myself so if you find out would you let me know?

Thanks Glen, I remember him and have spent time in his cabins/rooms.
I haven't been down there in about 5 years. Last time I was there they still had cabins for rent. My FIL leased some ground and kept a camper down there, we used to fish it a lot back in the day. There are some years where you can really tear them up but it depends a lot on what the river has been doing.
It's feast or famine over there. A gentleman with a first name of Elvis used to run the show, then it was Ron. Don't know who has it now.

I wouldn't overlook Esat Moon Lake on the refuge if Melwood doesn't pan out. It is not that far from the cabins and is less volatile when it comes to rising or falling rivers.

Mr. Atkins lost his cabins in the flood. I don't know if he has rebuilt them.
Tony, what is the fishing like at Lake City? Is this the town near Jonesboro on the St. Francis River? I grew in the Delta in Arkansas south of Memphis. I have a brother who coaches football in Paragould. I also know an ex game warden named Elvis who lives in Lake City I believe. He fishes Maddox Bay quite a lot and has a cabin there.
