My dad and I have clearance from our women to do an overnight crappie fishing trip this weekend. We are vertical jig fisherman primarily so places w lots of cover to fish are our favorites! We have loved fishing Maddox Bay in the past. Any reports on water levels and fishing there now or any of the refuge lakes?

If Maddox is out what about old town, or horseshoe?

    Thanks guys!

I fish the White River lakes fairly often. I spoke with Janice at Maddox Bay Landing last week. The water is slightly muddy and at about 23 feet. That will allow you to get into Upper Forked and probably Moon as well as most others. The fishing has been slow there. Some have done well on yoyo's. I had a friend fish Old Town last weekend with very little luck. He said that the water was right and they did not open the spillway. It appears that last weeks cold front messed it up. I, like ghe others, would try Old Town Lake. You could always call Miss Janice at Maddox bay Landing and get a report from her.

Thanks for the info. I would love to stay in one of the cabins Fri night and fish hard all day Sat down at Maddox. When you say the water is at 23 is that a white river gauge or the bay itself? We use to try and hit Maddox when the gauge at Clarendon was at 21. We thought that landlocked several of our favorite lacks and we used duck boats or drug a small boat back to those lacks to fish. I don't know if that rule of thumb is true or not?

That is the Clarendon gauge. At 21 it is possible but difficult to get into some of the lakes due to higher spots in the woods. If you need the number for Miss Janice, message me and I will be happy to give you the number. I see that the Mississippi River is reaching flood stage at Helena and is still rising. That will mess up the oxbow lakes on the Mississippi River.

Thanks guys. I will keep an eye on the white and miss. river gauges. I guess if the white is rising it just means i'm likely to find muddy water and lots of flooded woods for fish to hide in?
