    Default Skin or Replica?

All this talk about mounts got me thinking. I never understood why someone would want to pay all that money for a fake. Then I was told that the skin mounts deteriorate over time, fins chip, hard to clean, that sort of thing. So, now im thinking that its the memory that you're preserving anyway, so it may be better to get the one thats going to last. Anyone have any input on this. I dont even have one yet, (wishful thinking.)

My mount (skin) is about 10 years old and still looks like you just pulled her from the water and put her on the wall. But, as I age I get a little more sentamental. I think it would mean something to me that my trophy was still out there somewhere making little trophies.

Lots of guys can mount one, but VERY FEW, can paint one right. Crappie have lots of green in them. Most guys just paint em black and white. Look at most of the mounts posted, they are black and white. That's NOT how a white crappie looks!!!!!!!! There can be more black on some fish depending on the lake it was caught in, but most have a greenish color down the back. I've seen some nice mounts that were ruined by the paint. Some look like they've got black polka dots on em.

I got a 13# brown trout replica about 10 years ago. There is one thing I know for sure, it was done correctly. I don't hav to worry about if the taxidermist I used did it correctly, it ain't real. It is just a memory, weather it be a skin mount or a plastic... And BTW, that brown trout sure did taste good after a little brining and smoking, just like a smoked salmon.

I don't know that I have ever caught a fish worth mounting, or maybe I have and ate it by mistake. I have a list of ducks that I want to get mounted, but I never seem to find them. That's about my luck in a nutshell
