    Default Jet Lower Unit


    I have a 25hp Merc. Where would a feller start looking for a jet lower unit?

    I know you loose a lot of HP.... But..

    Does anyone use one?
    I seen a boat going down 40 the other day with a CDC logo.

    I'm going for a small surface drive mudmotor when my current one dies. I'm tired of fixing it and tired of replacing sheered pins. Did I also mention there is no lower unit to smash?

    You could check with your local mercury dealer, it would be a start, they may even be able to guide you in the direction you may need to go to find a used one.

    i have a 75 merc on 171/2 ft sea ark might sell. i use it at Mtn. View trout fighing
    If it will hold cornmeal it's big enough for me !!!!!!!!!

    I have used a jet for many years. They are used more in the mountains in the shallow streams. There are dealers in both Doniphan and
    West Plains, Missouri

    You may want to look at www.outboardjets.com Take a look at their FAQ page for some good info. Unless I'm wrong, they are the only manufacturer for outboard jet units. They supply all of the OEM jets units.

    A 25 HP is too small for a jet. You lose ~30% of your horsepower with a jet. For example I have a 40 HP Mercury Jet, it has the same powerhead as a 60 HP prop, but is only rated for 40 HP at the jet. And yes, I enjoy it greatly!!!

    You may want to checkout www.tinboats.net they have an awesome section just for jets on aluminum boats.
