Default Talk me out of it...

After a month and a half of trying to find a suitable motor to get the old boat up and running again, my wife and I had a long talk last night. We have $2,500 set aside for for the motor. We have previously looked at a new 1754 Grizzly Tracker with a side Console and 50hp Mercury ELPTO that was priced at $12,500. Thinking now about going ahead and just using the cash as a down payment and financing the boat so I can get my boys on the water during spring break next week.

If you know anything bad about the Grizzly/Merc combo, now is the time to tell me...

Not familiar with the boat. But, don't waste any oportunities to spend time with those boys. If you qualify, financing is too easy these days. I am about to finance a couple of 4 wheelers for less than what I used to smoke up every month----20 years ago.

Don't know much about them but that big a boat with a 50 hp would be underpowered, at least for me... I bet it's a great rig besides that. Also remember trolling motor, seats, and all the other things you may need.

Ive got the guy working me up a final price but I did remember to include a trolling motor, an additional seat (to make 4 with 2 pedestals), a boat cover and a fish finder. I'm having him price the Hummingbird 798ci and the 598ci both of which have side imaging.

My one concern is the trolling motor. I went with the 45# so that I could spend a little more on the electronics. I hope it pushes it OK.

I would compare boats and prices. I am not a fan of Mercury or Tracker boats but that is just me.

Good luck with your boat deal......my thinking is....if your going to finance and make payments, just spend a little more and get what you really want.

The boys and I have fished out of a 1968 model 14' Duracraft with a 6hp Johnson that is as old as the boat for the last several years. A couple of months ago I took possession of my deceased father-in-law's 1754 Alumacraft with intentions of fixing it up and using it to fish from this year. However we've run into issue after issue until finally we've decided to pursue a new boat.

One thing is for certain, whatever we get will be an improvement on what we've had!

That will be a nice rig. You may could fudge on the 598 if a 2d with di is cheaper and go with a larger TM. The 45lb may be ok, I don't know.
