Great info. Only thing I disagree with is that bigger baits keep smaller fish away. I use that same rig most of the time and I still catch lots of small fish as well as bigger ones. I have caught several 5" Crappie on a 3" jig.

My first real Crappie experience was when my company took me and a couple other guys on a guided trip on Lake Eufaula with Todd Hickabee and Barry Morrow. We were trolling submerged brush with a tandem rig, 1/4oz jig on the bottom, 1/8oz on the top with a 3" Watsit jig on each. We caught about 100 fish ranging from 4" to 2.4lbs. I adopted this method for a while, but found that the bigger baits arent as productive on Conway. I still use the bigger/heavier baits when fishing the deeper lakes like Brewer and Dardanelle. I like it, What he said open in my thinking. I have all was though that if minnows was 2 to 3" why we fish with a 1 1/2 jig.
All men are created equal, some work harder in the preseason.

I think he describes a one trac method...live by one method, die by one method...but I am after more than one crappie, even if it is the biggest in the lake...when I was going thru my bass phase, I was just as boastful about a spinner bait, any lake any time my spinner bait would catch big fish...well, let me say, I know there is no way to make crow edible...but, then again I am no pro...so I will get some of those baits, you never know...nothing about crappie fishing is written in stone...
