I had half a mind to swing by during crappie camp. My in laws live in Russellville and I know the wife would like me fishing Dardanelle better since we could save gas. Usually if I go fishing at Blue Mountain or Wister she goes to her moms in Russellville. That angle could land me more days on the water. I cruised around Dardanelle late January all the way up Illinois Bayou to the dam. I threw in on some trees and a brush pile but no luck. I have heard the phrase "strip pits" on this site a few times I may give them a try. I suppose those are by the ballfields heading up the Bayou??? I am sure they will move outta the pits once the water warms up? My father in law said there are always folks fishing on either side of 64. I guess they have brush piles they know of. If anyone wants to fish Dardanelle and give me a tour I'd buy the gas and minnows! I have a few unreliable fishing buddies but could use more. I am 29 and work at the 188th Fighter Wing in Fort Smith. I know there has to be an old vet on here that wouldn't mind teaching a youngster the ropes on Dardanelle. As far as Wister goes I fished it twice both times in the river and it was a lot like blue mountain. Cruised around found a piule of brush and sat over it for 5 hours. I may have caught 6 to 8 fish. The conditions weren't great the river was flowing too much and I think (just guessing) the crappie were full on river sediment or food they were eating with the water flowing? I'd go back and give it another try. Never fished the lake side of Wister I sure it'd be awesome prespawn on some mudflats.
