Ducks only. I have concentrated on ducks at this time of the year since 1972. We are fortunate to own some private timber and sloughs. The sloughs will hold water and fish unless it is extremely dry and the higher part of the property is an oak ridge that will flood during high water in the winter. The ducks have been absolutley awesome in the timber this year with large bunches landing close. Earlier this year the co-owner and I lit a big bunch and both shot empty with just a couple of ducks down. I asked him what kind of pattern his gun shot at 3 yards . My past 2 hunts have not been that successful since I have only fired 5 shots, but I have killed 7 ducks out of those 5 shots. As far as I remember this year, I have not fired a shot at a duck that has not had his feet wet first. Ducks in the timber rival the thump, but when you shoot it is all over and you still don't have the best game to eat. If I had to field hunt ducks, I would quit.
