I heard that it came from California but I did'nt hear that the first one was defective. I hope it was something beyond their control because it really will affect the lake for many years to come. I would think so anyways.

Actually, it took three different gates from California. They sent their engineers along with the last one to try to figure out why the gate was not sealing. We talked to a gentleman that was fishing the lake before we started filling back up. He said his last trip that he caught 11 nice sized crappie and he was having to paddle to get around.
I will probably regret it but the lake is 5 mins from my house and I've got the itch and I just got my boat switched over from hunting to fishing and I am going to try it in the morning. I will give a report, the landing on the south end looks like you can put in no problem.
Either way if tha gate was bad or not.... tell me why yall couldnt build a dam outa rocks and/or dirt to stop tha lake from getting that low? slow it down turn on tha pump? yall(game and fish) screw up everything yall touch and have never did a thing for us in northeast arkansas but.... drain our lakes... cut our timber... remove duck blinds... TRUST ME THA DAMAGE IS DONE
joefish, its been years since i fished over there, so i would like a report as well.

I usually go to Mallard on my first trip every year so I can check out all the equipment on the water. I like to make sure everything works and all is still in good shape before I go some where to really do some fishing. I'll probably be on Mallard Saturday.
Daddy Rat,
I understand your frustration. We originally lowered the lake 18 inches so we could install a coffer dam in front of the gate/pipe. Once the coffer dam was installed, the lake level decreased due to the drought. We would have liked to turn the pump on but there was not enough water at the intake in Ditch 28. The intake must be completely under water to run the pump without burning up the re-lift pump.

maybe next time we can use lil of that timber money and make that intake pipe lil lower in muck ditch? or take that pump on tha youth lake and run under ground pipe to mallard.... Bubba Hicks
I've always heard don't gripe unless you have a solution...
Daddy Rat makes some good points, Mallard is damned and its not just the stuff that happend last year its through out the YEARS... Maybe we can get some things changed on that lake that can help us out. I don't know how to go about it but I really think that we need somebody that knows what they are doing manage that lake and get it in the right direction before we can even fish it agian!
Thats just me.
Hey Joe - 3 years ago I took park in that 11-12" crappie catch. We fished on the north side from peir to east side with white and chartruce jigs under a cork 4 foot deep. no minnow just a crappie nibble. I would like a report on water level.
