Default Got plenty of rain in lake Conway.

Well we got a lot of rain and lake Conway is muddy and on the rise. The game and fish commission opened several gate before the rain and let water out in anticipation of the rain. I just hope they have enough fore thought to close them before it gets below the winter one foot lower level. I hope they have the fore thought to think about how low the lake was this past summer, and not draw it down ahead of a big rain, and then the rain not happen. I have seen this happen before, last year as a matter of fact. I question the thought behind opening the gates before a rain starts. Lake Conway is such a shallow impoundment, and if you let to much water out it becomes dangerous to navigate. They really need to control water levels better, a more stable water level is desirable by both the fish and surely by the fisherman.

I believe they just dont want to get caught with their pants down like they did a couple of years ago and have it come up into peoples homes. Ever since that happened, I believe it was 2011, seems they like to jump the gun on letting out water.

They jump the gun, then Drop the ball on getting the gates close fast enough, leaving the lake lower than what it needs to be, they are particularly bad about it during the spring spawn. Then with it a little lower than what it needs to be it pours over into some and it just gets worse. If we still had the inflow from stone dam creek year round like we used to the lake level would maintain itself.

yes Guru i agree with you 100%..water level right now is just inches below normal pool, and just got back from the dam all gates are open.hope they leave it up at least 6inches below normal pool.they can open more gates sooner or close them due to grassy lake road problem solved.water out for duck hunters was another issue before this rain.heard that the pipe going to bell slough damaged and only allowing half capacity to enter.seems that should be repaired and maybe have another pipe or trench to direct that water.choke points downstream from dam still an issue.LCHOA has a recent article stating maybe closer to yearly level at normal pool.lake management was revised in2009 should be time for another revision. thats my 2cents worth Lake Conway Home Owners Association Gold Creek Landing on Lake Conway Arkansas
