Hey Big H. If I am on your lakes I will cull a 12" crappie. My live well is a ice cooler and I cant afford something stupid happening in there.Like George in Sienfeld says "its shrinkage"

If on the rare occasion I were to catch a limit no way do I take them out of livel and throw back just to keep a fish just a little bigger. If were to keep fishing they would all go from hook to lake. Which is not likely to happen because by the time I caught a limit I'd be worn out or it would be dark.

I like to eat the little ones more than the bigguns. I like ketchin' the bigguns.

I thought if you caught a LIMIT, that meant you were SUPPOSED to stop fishin that day. If you're culling from a LIMIT, then before you cull one out with the fish you just caught, for that brief time before you find the one you want to throw back, you're OVER THE LIMIT!!!!! I call BS. It's illegal to cull from a LIMIT!!!!! If you have a limit, you must throw one back BEFORE you catch another one.

You are correct Bill , must only have 1 short of a limit to keep fishing.

That's what I always thought.

I don't absolutely love eating crappie. I give away as many as I keep. I don't really cull---I just immediately throw back the ones that I don't want--usually dinks less than 10". I don't throw back fish that had a hook in the gill, and couldn't care less if I get a limit or not since I'm not foaming at the mouth for crappie. From the research I've seen, hook and line fishing has such a small effect on fish populations in warmer southern lakes, I just don't think culling is a big problem either way.
