Anybody holding a pole with bait on the end IS a fisherman and has A lic. TO PROVE IT.NEVER say your not and don't make it so hard do what you think you should do.If just learning to fish buy your boys a few buzzbaits, spinnerbaits and top water baits and go after bass.Buy a box or two night crawlers or red worms go after bream.Buy a bucket of shinners and go after crappie which bass and bream like them too.
Just like deer hunting, rabbit hunting you sorta need to know where to look for them. Some days neither will be where they should be just like fish.Thats when you either hunt or fish for them maybe taking most of the day to either bag or throw it in the live well.Deer will be deep in the woods one day the next roaming all overs the woods the next day out in the feilds.Fish are the same, either deep in the brush, holdong just out side of the brush or roaming open water.
A brush top holding crappie today may not be holding them the next. Why some days bass will rule that tree top and run the crappie off and some days gar rule the same tops.In the same day the bass may only rule that tree top for a few hours and move off to find Another one to run the crappie off.Any time you know a top that holds crappie most of the time and they aren't there try a bass lure before you leave it.Before you know it instead of a mixed cooler of fish you will have all crappie.
Again like deer hunting and not seeing any but squirrels running all over the place, take home aleast a few squirrels. If crappie aren't biting take home a mess of bass or bream. Some tho had rather kick a bear in the butt as to eat a bass b/c they know and have 1000's of hours in learning what to do and when to only take crappie.Think like a fish, would you be behind the tree,in front, right side or left side to keep the sun out of yours eyes. And would you be 2 inches deep,6 in.,or all the way to bottom.Plus are you lazy and want chase your food or will you dash out and eat anything.
Just going fishing and not worry about catching,it will come to you in time. But nomatter what you do buy those boys some bass baits, that will get their blood boiling for more fishing.

Gindog, next time I go up there I will send you a pm and you and your boys can follow me around for a day, I will mark brush for you and try and give you some on the water pointers.

I got a limit with a few hogs but it took me all day. Didnt do much good vertical jiggin. It seemed the only way to get them was to cast a 1/16 oz jig and slow roll it back right on the bottom. There wasnt a lot of active fish where i was fishing, but the ones that were KILLED the jig and were real healthy.
