Do or Don't Front

New to the forum and new to crappie fishin'. Need help. How do cold fronts affect crappie fishing ? Before the front ? While its passing through ? And after it passes ? When's the optimal time to be on the water ? Thanks in advance.

For us that work 50-60 hours a week we fish when ever we can. I agree with Russ that stable conditions are best. Take this weekend for example. Yesterday 85 degrees this morning 45 degrees. NOT STABLE. It will not keep me off the lake. My main rule after a front is slow down , dress warm and stay out of that north wind. Good luck and welcome from Jonesboro AR.

I agree most of what was said. Welcome from Nimrod Lake which has as high numbers of Crappie as any place I've been. Fish before fronts when you can, but after one fish tight to cover and slow. Here I fish stumps or stakebeds close to the bottom after a front especially a cold front. Just remember it can take several days for fish to recover after a major front with bluebird skies behind them. Don't expect fishing to be easy but good catches can be caught even after most fronts pass with the right area and technique.

The above statement is all you need to know in order to go fishing on lake Conway. Well one more thing, watch out for the crowds.

Pre front is awesome fishing, Front over head still good fishing, post front conditions can be very tough, stable conditions are optimal. I don't think minners are needed to catch post front crappie, what is needed to catch post front crappie is time and patients. As far as the best time to go, we'll that one is easy, go whenever you can. There is a reason they call it fishing instead catching. You got to go fishing before you can catch em, so just go and the catching will happen. There is really not to many times that ain't good to go fishing. Crappie fishing ain't no harder than bream fishing or fishing for any other species of fish, anybody can figure it out. Fronts affect crappie the same as it does other fish. This forum will help you but remember what works for one guy may not be the right method for you. Them pesky crappie swim in most every body of water in Arkansas, so pick a lake and dedicate your time to learning those fish, then move to another lake and learn them, and so on and so on.
