Little Maumelle

Went trolling with Gooch yesterday afternoon. We were pushing some jigs and minnows in deeper water. The heat was almost unbearable without any breeze. I think the crappie agreed with us. We only caught 7 crappie and half a dozen yellow/white bass. The crappie that we did catch ran pretty good size. Gooch had both the big fish of the day and the oddest catch of the day. He hooked a 15" white crappie. Later on he caught a mussell in the mouth! All in all it was a good afternoon.

How far up the river did you go?

Not far at all. All of those fish were caught right at the mouth of the little maumelle. They were either very, very scattered or not wanting to bite. Those caught were about 12' deep. When they hit it, they wouldn't hold onto it for very long, but they would knock the fire out of it.

Dang Chris, I didn't even know mussels had mouths. I'm impressed that you hooked one.

You will have to talk to Gooch about that. But he sure did catch it in the mouth. hehe.
