    Default Finally got to Nimrod

I made it out to Lake Nimrod to join no other than Nimrod himself. Basically, it was everything I thought it would be but slower. I think it was just the day, though, as a lot of others were saying they had a hard time as well.

First off, this lake is no joke. Fishing was "slow", but we did catch around 120 for the day, and kept our 40 fish, all over 10", with about 6 in the 13-15". We fished 10 hours and probably 35-40 spots to catch em' but it was definitely worth it. Nimrod knows almost every stick in that body of water!

Just like i had always heard, the lake was not loaded with big fish, but I became a firm believer that there is a really large population of crappie in there. The interesting thing to me is that even though we caught about 30-40% black crappie, they only made up about 5% of our keeper fish. It must be the dingy water, I guess.

I had a really good time, and Nimrod was a great host. Besides sending me home with a gallon and a half of filets, he sent me home with a bonus bucket full of tomatoes form his garden. I hope everybody else has as much fun out there as I did. I'd really like to come back when the fishing was a bit quicker.

It was fun but seriously slower and we fished places I caught better fish only 2 days ago. Southern Pro Purple / Chartruse Umbrella tubes seemed to be the bait for what we caught. Glad you enjoyed today and hope you learned a little that may help you on other lakes. Verticle jigging would have been better if the sun had been out if it was like normal.

Pink/Chart. Midsouth jigs on Red Bighead Jigs worked pretty good for us today but we did catch quite a few including the biggest cat on the Purple/Chart. Umbrella Tube. Pink jigheads seem to work pretty good in this dingy water.

You know what I was talking about. It was'nt baits. Donald at Crappie Logic is coming out with a new bait. I'll show you some when he sends them. It can be tough to change when those Umbrellas work so good! I will use them and give a report as soon as I get time. May use several good baits from time to time. But the Umbrellas have my confidence. But IMO , you can keep the big heads with small hook. Those Crappie nibbles must work for Catfish. I will stay with a good quality unpainted 1/8 round leadhead with a #2 Bronze hook. Fish what works for you. I will usually catch almost a limit on Umbrella tubes and then test whatever is sent. That way I know they are biting and it's a fair and accurate test.
