Been there and done that. Rainbow Shad IMO , can't be made tasty. I stick with Crappie, Catfish , Bream , and Buffalo.

Take fresh trout not frozen make sure the black streak inside down the backbone is removed makes a big difference.with your thumb nail or brush.Wrap trout fillet in bacon smoke on a grill,Hickory chips or pecan chips smoke for 8-10 hours or until done seems to work best. Not crappie, not bream out of the cool White River. Even better camped on an island on the White river!!!!! Need to experence this at least once in a live time!!!!!

I've found even Duck breast edible if wrapped in enough Petit Jean Bacon.

Trout is definitely right up there at the top of the list when it comes to worst tasting fresh water fish!

Trout make good trotline bait. Anything that makes good trotline bait usually ain't decent table fare. Except a big ole bluegill i guess.
