Will agree with somewhere on man made lakes and man made brush but will disagree with somewhere on the oxbows and sloughs. Will also agree with same color lure on man made lakes but will disagree on same color day in and out in the oxbows and sloughs. Some days not even a red stick with a fuse in the end will float any to the top. They will feed at night and sleep all day b/c they know they have blood suckers protecting them from being caught.
Food for thought do you think somedays the color of your shirt matter as to spook fish?
Well Nim from what i've seen it is the location, depth that seem to be so important. On tough lakes I sure like to have lively minnows too which can be hard to do in this heat, keep bait alive for very long. I'd thought about going bass fishing rest of the night after the game tonight but I may just wait and get up early in the morning in search of the crappie.
That maybe covers alot water....
Its not always true in light colored lures for clear water ususally i find it the other away around. I have found out white or gray shirt is not wise to wear in shallow clear water.
I really don't know how far a fish can see below water level nor above water level but it seems like miles in clear water.can anybody anwers this q'tion,i have seen crappie slowly rise up though duckweed just barely pasted their eyes and look around. Have seen them slowly slide up by a tree barely past their eyes and look around. Have seen it several times so what are they doing...
Feeding? Glupping for air? Seriously never heard or wittnessed Crappie doing this either. I catch fish by verticle fishing as our water is colored and have caught them less than 4' of water in hot weather. Only time I had to resort to casting was an unusally clear spell on the lake when the fish suspended over structure. I know if water is clear with no wind to break the surface fish must see us. My theory is if we see them, they probably see us.
I just keep fishing. I will change colors here and there, cause it gives me a new confidence, but its usually I find fish cause I'm still fishing instead of heading home. Maybe thats why I"ve got so many different colors. Some days I need alot of "new confidence".
They are not feeding or glupping, never seen them eat anything or open their month to glup. If you happen to notice it happening if you'll set real still before their eyes comes into view they will stay like that alittle while and slowy sink back down. When they come up by a tree their chin (bottom lip)will be laying on the tree. This are black crappie if you didn't see it happening it looks like a stick sticking up,never have seen them swim around while doing it. You will never see the back fin,all you see is a head sticking from eyes to upper lip. If you move before they decide to sink back down all you see is a swirl never a splash. Told the grandkids they were making sure it was their hooks they where hanging on tree limbs and stumps and not mine.
Maybe their periscopes ain't working.
