I bought a fixer upper in west Pulaski county that has two 1/2 acre ponds on it. I am thinking I will put about 300 to 400 hybrid bream in each pond for kids to catch. I have heard they will not repopulate and will grow fast. Any one have experience with that?
I am also considering maintaining the property with a smaller brush hog that pulls behind an ATV. I don't think a tractor could work the hilly terrain. What do yall know about those?
    Thanks DP

DP. I would suggest you check out the following two publications:

MP360 - Farm Pond Management for Recreational Fisheries

    http://www.agfc.com/resources/Public...Management.pdf

MP447 - Recreational Fishing in Small Impoundments: Alternative Management Options

    http://www.uaex.edu/Other_Areas/publ...PDF/MP-447.pdf

These were both put together by Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, in conjunction with UAPB and AGFC. The first is a great primer for anyone with a recreational fishing pond. The second covers some different options for specific goals in fish production (big bass option, big bream option, and hybrid sunfish option). I think you will find them helpful.

Also, check out the following, which is a link to all the sportfish producers in Arkansas, and the fish that are available for purchase:

    http://www.agfc.com/resources/Public..._suppliers.pdf

    Good luck!

Don, Don't know how many acres you talking about total, but unless it is real steep I would look at tractor and bush hog, I had one of those 11 HP Swisher trimmers once and they do ok, but if it is too steep for tractor it's probably same for four wheeler. I run up and down grade when it's steep, or from top of bank down to water but have front bucket on for weight.
As for the fish, we always had perch and catfish in ponds, and they multiply like rabbits.

for sure go with a tractor (4WD). Those pull behinds are no good. When done you can always sell a tractor, but the pull behind mowers ...?

Those hybrid bluegill are fun fun fun. They get big and meaty and fight hard. Good choice for small water like that.

Here's a list of suppliers. Farm Cat's Thad Finley has been a friend/client of mine for over a decade. His mom is what I call my MIC (mother in Christ) and his parents are still my clients to this day even though I live up here now.

BTW, I moved out of that area when moving up here. Lived on Ferndale Congo Rd just south of the Kanis Rd intersection. Nice area. How close are you to Lake Norrel? Good fishing and clear water.

I don't know much about Norrell. This property is about a mile off off Col Glen and out from I 430 (9 miles) almost to Ferndale Congo. I will check lake Norrell out.
    Thanks

Holy Cow! That puts you about county line then. Most likely I would recognize the name of the previous property owners. I lived on Col Glen just before Beauchamp in a little double wide with a chain linked fence on the north side. X-sister-in-law lives there now.

I churched Crystal Hill Baptist over off Lawson.

Lived out there from '88 - 94 then moved to MS for a year then lived off Lawson then moved out off Congo Ferndale until 2004. Now in Kansas City.

    Small world.

Trying to think of who all had water off Col Glen... you didn't buy the old Archie Brown place did ya? Gotta a 8# bass hanging in my garage from there.

    Enjoy the grandkids.

This one is on Whispering Pine. Thanks for the Norrell tip. It looks good on line. We have spied Chrystal Hill Baptist. We will check that out too.
